About

the Living in Herban Paradise blog by Paradise City Herbal

My husband and I grow herbs, veggies, flowers and mushrooms on our .12 acre lot just 2/3 mile from the center of a bustling New England college town known for its vibrant music and arts scene. A student of herbalism, I use the herbs I grow to make bodycare and soaps, as well as for food and medicine.

Here I talk about working to transition the garden into a thriving micro-farm, my passion for organics & natural bodycare, D.I.Y. herbal crafting, and how my personal and professional pursuits have merged.

Save the Crosby Mint Farm, Buy a Dram

peppermintThe following is reprinted from an email I received. Please help a farmer in need and preserve a piece of history. You must act today!

As some of you may have read or heard, Crosby Mint Farm (St. Johns, MI) has fallen on hard times and slipped into foreclosure. If the family doesn't come up with $350,000 by November 1, they'll lose the farm.

Because of the farm's historic significance and the family's desire to continue producing their wonderful essential oil, your help is needed. Please tell your friends and ask them to pass this on.

On November 1st the bank has the right to inventory AND equipment AND then on August 14, 2009 they can take over the property. Currently, there is enough essential oil inventory to pay this debt.

77,000 DRAM BOTTLES MUST BE SOLD BY NOV. 1ST!!!

1 dram of pure peppermint or spearmint essential oil for $5. And there's free shipping when you spend over $30!

"In addition to having what appears to be the oldest surviving still in the country, the Crosby Farms operation also appears to be the oldest mint farm in continuous operation in the United States. The key word here is "continuous" --- that it has cultivated and processed mint since J.E. Crosby purchased the property before World War I."   -Ephraim K. Smith, President; Heritage Productions, Inc.

Visit www.getmint.com</a> for order information.

For more on this story, read the article from the Lansing State Journal.

:!: UPDATE 11/06/08: The farm is continuing to sell their essential oil. Though the inventory is no longer protected, they hope these sales will demonstrate to the lender they have a valued product and heritage worth saving. 53,442 drams left and counting down....
